When It Falls Apart (And How to Ask For Help)

It will fall apart. What matters is having a restart that takes five minutes and words that get you actual support.

Listen first

Listen first: after a bad month

Spoken introduction · read aloud in your browser

There'll be a week where none of this happens. Then another one.

The people who do well with these systems aren't the ones who never drop them. They're the ones who restart without a long argument with themselves first.

And sometimes the honest answer isn't a better system — it's telling someone what you need.

The real skill

Restart small, and skip the audit

After a bad month, the instinct is to catch up on everything at once, which is why nothing restarts.

Don't audit what you missed. Open the list, look at the next four days, do the ten-minute opener on one thing. That's a full restart.

The backlog gets handled in conversation with a teacher, not in a heroic weekend.

Restart

Next four days. One opener. That's it.

Try this

Ask in a way that gets a yes

Vague asks get vague answers. Specific asks get support.

  • I'm struggling with your subjectI lose the deadline when it's only said out loud — could you put it in the portal too?
  • Can I have an extensionI've done the plan and the intro. Could I have until Wednesday for the rest?
  • I can't concentrate in classI focus much better near the front. Could I move seats?

You're not asking for a favour. You're telling them the condition that makes your work possible.

Notice

Who is actually on your side at school?

One named person is worth more than any system in this course.

Growing Up ADHD

School is one part of it. The next course is about the rest — friendships, identity, confidence, and understanding your brain without turning ADHD into your entire personality.

Keep this

Three things to take.

  1. 01Restart with the next four days, never with the backlog.
  2. 02Specific asks get support; vague ones get sympathy.
  3. 03One named adult on your side beats any planner.
